CANNULATION WORKSHOP

Target Audience: Intensivists, Cardiac Surgeons, Anaesthesiologists, Cardiologists, Emergency Medicine Physicians, ECMO Specialists

Learning objectives:

  • Practice percutaneous ECMO cannulation on high-fidelity training mannequins.
  • Learn appropriate use of ultrasound/echocardiogram to facilitate safe cannulation.
  • Discuss cannulation tips/tricks and troubleshooting.
  • Safely connect ECMO cannulae to the primed ECMO circuit and initiate ECMO.
  • Understand the considerations behind choosing between several VV ECMO [Fem-Jug, Fem-Fem, Jugular Bicaval], VA ECMO [Central, Peripheral], and hybrid configurations [V-VA, VA-V, LAVA].
  • Review cannula design and selection, and review other components of a ECMO circuit.
  • Discuss weaning strategies and percutaneous decannulation techniques.

PEDIATRIC ECMO WORKSHOP

Date: February 4-5, 2025
Location: Sim Centre, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi Hospital, UAE
Duration: 13 Hours [ 4th Feb 08:00-16:30] [5th Feb 08;00-12:30]
Target Audience: ECMO Specialist Nurses, Paediatric intensivists, Cardiac Surgeons, Anaesthesiologists, Respiratory Therapists
Fees: 1500 AED

Using patient case scenarios, VA and VV ECMO concepts are further explored. In the setting of small groups, students will have an opportunity for hands on learning and troubleshooting of clinical cases.

Who Should Attend:

  • This course is designed for learners who have already completed a neonatal/pediatric ECMO didactic course or for practitioners with a strong foundational knowledge of ECMO patient care.
  • The course qualifies for Step 2 of the ELSO Certification application.

ELSO Train The Trainer Workshop (Post Conference)

Date: February 9-10, 2025
Location: Sim Centre, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi Hospital, UAE
Duration: 16 Hours [8-hours per day]
Target Audience:

  • Experienced ECMO practitioners including physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, perfusionists transitioning into or enhancing training roles.
  • Individuals coordinating or overseeing ECMO programs needing to develop ECMO training for staff.
  • Professionals focusing on simulation-based training in ECMO scenarios.
  • Leaders involved in setting up or maintaining ECMO programs.
  • Centers aiming to become ELSO Endorsed Training Sites.
  • Most suited for ECMO practitioners who meet the following criteria:
    • Attended a formal debriefing course
    • Achieved E-AEC
      Attended a ELSO or ELSO-endorsed
    • ECMO course
